WHAT TO DO WHEN YOU HAVE A LEAK AT THE GROUP?
Your group takes a lot of wear and tear, it is normal for leaks to happen over time. Ask yourself, when was the last time you changed your group gasket? This could solve the problem. Group gaskets should be changed quarterly to ensure the best seal. This goes for a home and commercial setting. Factors such as machine up-time and use play heavily into how long the group gasket will last. Gaskets are made of rubber which gets harder over time, reducing the sealing ability and the feel of your portafilter.
Remember, when you install your portafilter, it should feel smooth and snug. You should not have to work to prevent leaks. That is what the gasket is for! If the angle of your handle is not the same as it used to be, or you have to muscle it into place to keep the leaks away, it is time for new gaskets.

Also ask yourself, when was the last time you changed your portafilter and basket? The top edge of your basket seals against the rubber gasket. That is the same surface that gets hit to eject your puck! Over time, it can become dented, and those dents can allow water to bypass the seal. Your baskets see a lot of coffee, pressure, and action. If you don’t know the last time you changed them, now would be a great time.
